Animal physiology

We are experts in preclinical and transgenic rodent models for experimentation in the field of metabolism, nutrition and exercise physiology.

The facility is equipped for housing of rats and mice (e.g. individually ventilated cages unit) as well as various instrumentation for experimentation.

We develop specific methodologies for monitoring:

  • hypoxia exposure (open-circuit hypoxia chamber coupled with nitrogen extractor and gas analyzer)
  • endurance training and acute exercise (high intensity, intermittent,..) using a rodent treadmill
  • diet-induced pathophysiological models of obesity, insulin-resistance, oligoelement deficiency
  • toxicology models of pollutants exposure (as food or beverage additives)
  • isolated heart, perfused pancreas, isolated hepatocytes for further metabolic studies
  • in situ, in vivo and in vitro measurement of hindlimb muscle strength capacities in isokinetic (dynamic) or isometric conditions

Basic metabolic parameters can be followed during significant periods of time (food intake, energy balance, spontaneous locomotor activity).
Glucose and insulin tolerance tests are an automated microanalyzer.

The facility is subjected to a centralized multiparameter quality control (GTC, for pressure, temperature, light, etc.) with a man-machine interface (IHM, visualization and backlog of pressure, temperature, light, …).
