Metabolic analysis & Respirometry

This facility assembles different approaches to study metabolism in cell-free and cellular systems using HPLC and (spectro)photometric analysis, as well as respiration, heart function, and hypoxia.

Quantitative in vitro assays

based on fluorescence, luminescence or visible light detection/absorbance, eventually coupled to upstream separation by HPLC (enzyme activities, markers of protein and lipid oxidation, specific metabolites like adenylates, (phospho)creatine and antioxidants, mitochondrial calcium retention capacity, etc.)

Respirometry/oxygraphy

to quantify mitochondrial respiration of intact cells, permeabilized cells or isolated mitochondria

Perfusion of heart in situ

recording of performance parameters

Multi-scale analysis (proteins, cells, organs, rodents) of hypoxia together with other facilitie

Material

HPLC
3 oxygraphs
Cell perifusion system
Heart perfusion system
3 microplate readers
2 fluorimeters
7 spectrophotometers
1 spectrofluorimeter
